About Denis Smith

My photography has been about pushing, discovering and looking for that spark. I surround myself with people that gel in super creative and exciting ways. The result … we create magic. Let’s connect, learn and create magic together. There will be no fluff, we are simply ‘doers’! – Denis Smith
Business Philosophy
Photography is about a connection. Whether between you and a loved one, or you and a prospective customer.
My business is about connecting with people and businesses who want an amazing experience when dealing with a photographer.
Creating memorable images and video takes drive and passion mixed with a bit of motivation. I will bring these in spades.
I am not interested in creating run of the mill products. We will create magic, together.
Creative Spark
Since I first picked up a camera I have driven myself to push the boundaries and look for that spark.
My light painting project (Ball of Light) is known worldwide, and although I am more than happy to create a perfectly exposed corporate portrait, the edge is where I like to be.
Photography is a changing industry. It is no longer simply a still image in a catalogue, or a portrait for a website. Photography and Video are intimately entwined and essential partners in any serious marketing plan.
Life Experience
I have spent the last 20 years working within large multi-national corporations in the Graphics Arts, Printing and Advertising industries.
This has given me an intimate understanding of the “back end” of our industry. How images and video are used to entice, motivate end enthrall is where my passion for the visual started.
Living and breathing Graphic Arts has given me an understanding of the processes involved in the industry. I am excited to be driving it from this end now.
Communication
Over the years I have dealt with all sorts of businesses from C Level Advertising Executives to small business owners. I love communicating and developing ideas at all levels.
20 years in corporate sales and business development taught me that nothing is more important than listening and learning. I enjoy finding unique ways to visually communicate a message and connect with the audience.
What matters is passion, and I will work with you towards the end result required.
CREATIVE COLLABORATION
As a freelance photographer, I am lucky enough to surround myself with a team of super creative specialists required to get a job done. From high-end motion graphics to wedding photography, to fully blown documentary video productions, I have a team of collaborators that I trust intimately. This means no matter the production size we can keep production values high and overall costs at a respectable level.
My amazing team provide a breadth of creativity I am so proud of. We are known for creating content that punches well above its weight.
Sam Collins Media
Sam Collins is a highly skilled video producer. He is unique in his ability to create a project from conception to final edit. We work closely on video projects and I trust his ability intensely.
Working as a team, we can create your product with the minimum of human input. Continuity and constancy through a project is difficult when you have too many hands on deck.
From our first project, the Ball of Light Documentary, Sam and I have gelled perfectly, and since then we have created a vast array of content together that speaks for itself.
Kyrie Kohlhagen
A talented graphic designer with her own successful business, Kyrie Kohlhagen’s visual concepts and creative eye help to consolidate the team’s ideas.
Her input into our productions come in the form of art direction, styling and graphic design.
Kyrie’s visual skill to foresee and compose the next frame streamlines the direction and flow of our shoots immensely.
Kyrie is also a talented photographer and has an exciting new photography product for small business coming very soon!
Happy 618
Alex Kwong, the creative behind Happy 618 is a well established event/live music photographer in South Australia.
Low light ability is super critical when shooting this type of work, but to capture a band in full flight or an event emotively, you have to blend in, and Alex is our man.
When I first saw a wedding that Alex had captured I was intrigued. Not every wedding is the same, and not every set of images has to be the same.
I am super proud to be collaborating with Mr Kwong and look forward to sharing some of his magic with my clients.
