It is so easy to scroll through a gallery, shoot past an image on Instagram or dismiss a seemingly simple shot we see online. I have started a series called Behind The Shot, this is a play on behind the scenes, where I capture some video or stills of what goes into creating the light painting images you see of mine, and others.

The first image I am sharing is by my very good mate Brian who has been a light painting buddy for a while now. Brian is not only a phenomenally talented light painter, but is also gifted at teaching and inspiring others, myself included.

Brian and I have created a lot of work over time, he has a drone business and worked with me in creating my epic Liquid Light video, using one of his beast drones to capture me in the water at night. I will be sharing some of that soon.

So, here is the image:

One of the things about this shot, as with many drains, is the effort required to get into the drain. I am an old, kind of creaky old bugger, so climbing, sliding and lifting was involved. And that was a mission.

The model here is Hayley, she is a light painting newbie, and is just soaking up the knowledge, fun and excitement that is light painting.
