Maybe 100m and around a couple of corners, from the entrance to the Taj Mahal was a small, unassuming wooden door. As I did my entire trip, I poked my head through the door. I was welcomed into a small school. The joy in these children. The laughs we had. I turned left when everyone else was turning right. The sight of tourists repelled me in the opposite direction. The One I have captured hundreds of portraits on my photography journey. But this still remains the one I am proudest of. This man and I had seconds to connect. He knew what was happening. We locked eyes, became fleeting friends, then I took this photograph. Of the many portraits I took on the streets of India, not one was captured unless I had connected, sometimes in a moment, sometimes after an hour, with the subject.
