ICONS OF PORSCHE

In November 2024 I was invited across to Dubai for the incredible Icons of Porsche event by my good mate Ludo. We’d worked together on the Formula One project and had an absolute blast, so when the opportunity came up to work together again, I jumped at it.

Over two weeks I created a body of work documenting the installation and pull-down of the event, and spent the main event capturing an extraordinary array of vehicles, people and, of course, light painting.

As the venue emptied out each day, I was left to roam the site at night, creating light painting images beyond my wildest dreams. Cars I’d lusted over as a young man sitting alongside incredible modern machines — and for a few hours each night, I pretty much had them to myself.

One of the highlights was creating a live light painting activation with Enrico Fulgenzi Racing. Throughout the night I created light painting portraits for visitors, with the images appearing on screen for the crowd to see as they were made.

Watching people gather around and then seeing their reaction as each finished image appeared was brilliant. For many of them it was their first time seeing light painting actually being created — and it blew a few minds.

That night really demonstrated what I love about bringing light painting into major events. It can be much more than creating a finished photograph. The process itself becomes part of the experience — a live performance that draws a crowd, creates interaction and gives people something completely unexpected to be part of.

After more than fifteen years of light painting, I still get a ridiculous amount of joy from standing in the dark with a camera and a light, wondering what we might create.
