Our October workshop at FABRIK was incredible, and I've discovered something special about this location. We can explore light, experiment and create in a beautiful controlled environment during the day, before heading outdoors after dark.

This is a comprehensive, hands on deep dive into light painting portraiture. Ten hours of learning, experimenting, collaborating and creating images you might never have imagined possible.

Small groups in a specialised location, this is the perfect format for learning, experimenting and understanding what happens on both sides of the camera. And with only nine places, everyone gets plenty of personal attention and time to create.

WHAT WE'LL EXPLORE

• Portrait fundamentals: Understanding light, working with people and creating compelling portraits across studio, street, corporate and intimate settings.

• Light painting portraiture: A huge range of techniques, from the fundamentals through to some genuinely mind bending possibilities.

• BY THE LINE - I will bring ans set up my line rig, and explain the technique and project.

• Light painting tools: Explore a wide array of tools and learn how to use them creatively.

• Natural light and flash: We will touch on “standard” forms of portraiture as well.

• Camera rotation: One of my favourite techniques. This will blow you away.

• DUALITY: I'll have my DUALITY rig set up so we can explore the technique behind the series.

• Post-processing: We'll look at how to refine and finish your images.

• Photography, art and wellbeing: As always, we'll explore the connection between creativity, photography and positive mental health.

DAYLIGHT — FABRIK Studios

We'll spend the afternoon and early evening exploring portraiture in the studio, developing techniques and building confidence.

AFTER DARK — ON LOCATION

At around 8pm, we'll head to a nearby park, taking everything we've learned into a completely different environment. With sunset around 8:30pm, we'll transition into creating light painting portraits outdoors.

You'll receive a comprehensive pre-workshop video to help you prepare, understand what to bring and arrive ready to get straight into creating.

By the end of the workshop, you'll have a huge variety of portraits, a much deeper understanding of light and an entirely new creative toolkit.
